Media player

Quick start: Playing a CD

Switched off

The media player may look intimidating, but don’t worry. It’s easy to get started with playing a CD. Here’s how.

Switching the player on

The power switch is on the left hand side. Push it all the way in, and the display will light up. The player will take a few seconds to finish starting up.

Ready to go

You can tell when the player is ready because it will say “CD” and “No Disc” on the display.

Selecting the source

Sometimes the player might have been left with another source selected, and it might say something like “USB” or “BLUETOOTH” in the upper left of the screen. If this is the case, repeatedly press the “Source” button to the right of the display until it reads “CD”.

Inserting a CD

Gently place a CD, label side up, into the CD slot. The player will automatically draw the CD in and read its contents. You cannot play anything other than a standard sized and shaped CD. ‘Novelty’ CDs will damage the player’s mechanism.

Placing a CD in the CD slot

When the CD has been read, the screen will show “STOP” in the upper right corner, and will show the number of tracks and total running time of the CD underneath.

Ready to play

Selecting a track

The easiest way to select the track you want is to use the “Multi Jog” wheel to the right of the display. Turn it clockwise or anticlockwise to change the track.

Using the “Multi Jog” wheel to select a track

By default the player is in ‘single track’ mode, which means it will play the track you have selected and then stop. You can check that the player is in this mode by looking for the “1” next to the “CD” in the top left corner.

The player will display the total time for the track, and the word “STOP”.

Playing a track

To start a track playing, press the “Play” button. The word “STOP” on the display will change to “PLAY”.

Using “Play” to start a track

Cueing a track

If you use the “Play” button to start a track it might take a couple of seconds to being playing, as the CD spins up to speed. To avoid this you can ‘cue’ a track first, by pressing the “Pause” button. The word “STOP” on the display will change to “PAUSE”, and the player will spin the CD up ready.

When you press “Play” on a cued track it will begin playing immediately.

Stopping a track

If you need to stop playback at any time, press the “Stop” button.

Adjusting the volume

There is no volume control on the CD player itself. Most of the time you shouldn’t need to change the volume, but some CDs (especially ones which are homemade) may need adjustment.

If you need to adjust the volume for any reason, you should use the blue fader labelled “CD” on the audio mixer.

To increase the volume, push the fader up. To reduce it, pull the fader down. Bringing the fader all the way to the bottom will turn the volume to zero. The “0” mark on the fader scale is ‘normal’ volume.

You should not need to change any other settings on the mixer.

When you’re done

When you’re finished playing the CD you should eject it using the “Eject” button to the right of the CD slot. Switch the player off by pressing the power switch again. The display should turn off.
