External Event Publicity Guidelines
These are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. All decisions are at the discretion of the Communications Team.
What things do we promote?
We generally offer support with publicity for events where:
- The event is open to the general public
- The event does not directly compete with a Church event
and either:
- The event is in the fields of the arts or education, even if profit-making
or:
- The event is charitable in nature (even if not run by a charity)
Examples
These are indicative, but not exhaustive.
Yes
- Musical concerts
- Lectures
- Gallery exhibitions
- Stage performances open to the public (eg theatre and dance where anyone can buy a ticket)
- Table-top sales with proceeds supporting a charitable cause (eg those run by Guides)
No
- Trade events or conferences
- Table-top sales where proceeds are not donated to charity (but see What’s On for other events)
Channels
We will usually offer promotion via some mix of:
- Either the Church or Community Centre “What’s On”, depending on where the event is
- Shout-outs on social media
- Poster space
- Landmark magazine ad space
Exactly which channels are used is dependent on availability of both space and media assets.
What’s On for other events
Even where an event doesn’t meet the above criteria, but is still open to the general public, we’re usually happy to include it in What’s On pages. Any other promotional space will be subject to the usual terms and charges.
