Who we are

The full name of the Church is:

St Mary’s Church, Whitkirk

If you are writing prose you may use “St Mary’s Church”, or more informally “St Mary’s” or “the Church” if the context is clear.

You must always refer to the Church this way unless there is a specific reason not to.

If you are talking about the organisation, you must always use a capital C. For example, “the Church’s coffee morning”.

If you are talking about the building itself, you should use a lowercase C. For example, “we will meet in the church”.

Our tagline

Where all find a welcome and are nurtured in their journey with Christ.

Our tagline is a summary of our mission and helps to present the Church in the eyes of the public.

Usage rules

  • The tagline must either appear directly below the logo or not at all.
  • The text must be in the same alignment as the logo, usually centred.
  • The phrase must appear exactly as it does here, with no changes to punctuation or capitalisation.

Things to avoid

  • Do not put the tagline in quotation marks.
  • Never put anything between the logo and the tagline.
  • Do not add to the beginning or end of the tagline. For example, “St Mary’s is a place where all find a welcome…”

Our mission

Our mission is what we are here to do. It is closely related to – but not the same as – our tagline.

To provide a welcoming and caring environment for all, and to support and nurture people through their personal journey with Christ.

You shouldn’t need to put our mission statement in anything you are producing, but it should underpin everything we do and say.

Our values

Our values tell us how we should behave and help set the tone whenever we interact with anyone or produce content, including in person, in printed materials, on the phone and online.

If you are thinking of doing something which is at odds with one of these values, then you probably shouldn’t do it.

Welcoming

The Church aims to make everyone feel welcome, no matter who they are or what their circumstances.

Caring

The Church cares about people and their wellbeing; physically, mentally and spiritually.

Attentive

The Church pays attention to what people are saying and doing.

Honest

The Church is always open, honest and up-front when communicating.

Supportive

The Church offers support where it can and accepts its own limitations where it can’t.
