Our typefaces


Our chosen typefaces aren’t just there to look pretty - they’ve been selected not just to help with how we want to be perceived by people, but also to be easily read in a number of different situations.

The Church has three key typefaces, which most materials should use variations of. Particular projects or events may choose to use their own more specific typefaces – this is absolutely fine, and you shouldn’t feel constrained in these cases. However, the bulk of ‘everyday’ material should use our chosen typefaces.

You should almost never need to use this typeface, as it’s usually reserved for materials with special significance such as annual reports, orders of service for festival services, and visits by dignitaries.

If you’re planning to use this typeface you should almost certainly let the Communications Team know.

Lato is used for titles at the beginning of materials, and headings within. It is available in a wide range of weights from hairline to black, which will suit almost every use case.

Headings should always be visibly larger than the document sections which they separate, and it should be easy to distinguish different levels of headings.

This typeface was chosen because it reproduces well both on screen and in print, at a large range of sizes. The serifs on the letters make it easier to pick out their shapes, particularly in low light and for those who may have reduced vision.

Noto Serif should be used for all text which is not a heading, such as paragraphs, page headers and footers and bulleted lists.

We previously used Droid Serif as our standard body typeface. Noto Serif is a more modern and improved version of the same typeface.

Where a document is predominantly carrying the Community Centre brand, Lato may be used as the body typeface.
